Lesson · 3 rules · about 3 min

A carpenter's workshop full of specialist tools: tap each one in the picture, then give it its article.

  1. 1The last part of a compound decides
  2. 2Same first part, different article
  3. 3Tools in -er are der, -eisen is das, -chen is das
Why this matters

A picture hunt instead of a deck: one busy carpenter's workshop with 32 things to find, every one a precise craft word that ordinary conversation rarely needs — der Hobel, die Schraubzwinge, das Senklot, der Klüpfel hanging on the pegboard. The prompt asks Wo ist der Zollstock? and you tap it in the picture. Each find shows its label, coloured by its gender, then leaves a small tick in that colour, so you can see what you have already found. Once you have passed a run, the hunt turns harder: the prompt hides the article (Wo ist ___ Zollstock?), and after the find you choose der, die or das yourself. A tap on bare wall costs nothing; a tap on the wrong object tells you what you hit and you keep looking, and after three misses the right one is shown. No object is asked twice in the same run.
