Lesson · 3 rules · about 3 min

  2. 2Tools in -er are masculine — but not das Fenster
  3. 3Foreign lab words: listen to the ending
Why this matters

A picture hunt in a small, slightly cluttered science laboratory with 32 things to find, every one a noun you meet when people talk about research and experiments — der Bunsenbrenner in the fume hood, das Stativ with its funnel, die Zentrifuge by the sink, das Fossil on the shelf. The prompt asks Wo ist der Erlenmeyerkolben? and you tap it in the picture. Each find shows its label, coloured by its gender, then leaves a small tick in that colour, so you can see what you have already found. Once you have passed a run, the hunt turns harder: the prompt hides the article (Wo ist ___ Erlenmeyerkolben?), and after the find you choose der, die or das yourself. A tap on bare wall costs nothing; a tap on the wrong object tells you what you hit and you keep looking, and after three misses the right one is shown. No object is asked twice in the same run.
