Why this matters

Emma, an English student in Munich, and her first week — day by day, in the past. The text mixes the two past forms you now have, exactly as a real text does: war and hatte for how things were (alles war neu, das Deutsch war schwer, sie hatte einen Termin) and the Perfekt for what happened (hat ein Zimmer gefunden, ist zur Universität gegangen, hat ein Konto eröffnet). Two dative pronouns carry the last question: das Leben gefällt ihr — she likes the life — and das Wetter ist ihr zu kalt. Read the days in order; each question belongs to one day or one sentence.

Emmas erste Woche in Deutschland

Emma kommt aus England und studiert seit September in München. In der ersten Woche war alles neu für sie. Am Montag hat sie ein Zimmer in einer WG gefunden. Die Wohnung ist klein, aber die zwei Mitbewohner sind sehr freundlich. Am Dienstag ist sie zur Universität gegangen. Sie hat ihren Stundenplan bekommen und neue Leute kennengelernt. Das Deutsch war zuerst schwer, weil alle so schnell gesprochen haben, aber die Studenten waren sehr nett und haben ihr geholfen.
