Why this matters

Colours are the first adjectives you use to describe things, and at first you use them in the easy position: after the verb sein, where they never change — Das Auto ist rot. Die Blume ist gelb. (Before a noun an adjective takes an ending — ein rotes Auto — but that comes later in the course; for now you only need to recognise it.) You need eleven basic colours, and three of them are loanwords that never take any ending even later: rosa, lila and orange. This quiz gives you a clue and asks for the colour; the clues also quietly teach you nouns like Himmel, Gras and Sonne.
