Read a friend's e-mail about a new café and pick out what you need: when it's open, what it costs and when you'll meet.

Why this matters
Anna writes to her friend Lena about a new café: where it is, when it is open, what it costs, what to eat — and at the end she invites Lena to go with her. A short personal e-mail like this is what friends actually send, and it usually carries the same kinds of detail: a place, days and times, a price, a recommendation and a date. The café ordering script is practised in the listening and speaking exercises; here the job is scanning. Read the e-mail once for the gist, then for each question decide whether you are hunting a place, a day, a number or a thing, and find the key word: geöffnet / geschlossen for the days, kostet for the price, Tipp for the recommendation, Möchtest du …? for the invitation.

geöffnet and geschlossen
Opening times come as von … bis …; the day that is missing is usually the answer to "when is it closed?" — and it is often said separately: Am Montag ist es geschlossen.

Am Montag ist es geschlossen. On Monday it is closed.

Personal e-mails end with the reason for writing: a question with Möchtest du …? or Hast du Zeit? and a day and time.

Question first, then hunt the key word: kostet, geschlossen, Tipp, Möchtest du.
von … bis gives the open days; the missing day is the closed one.
A short personal e-mail with richtig/falsch items is a typical A1 exam reading text — and exactly what friends send you.
Eine E-Mail von Anna
Liebe Lena,
Schreib mir bitte!
Liebe Grüße
Anna

Translation
Dear Lena,
do you know the new café on the market square yet? It is small but very cosy. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from nine to six. On Monday it is closed. A coffee costs only two euros fifty, and the cake is fantastic. My tip: the cheesecake! There is also tea, juice and small rolls. Would you like to go there with me on Saturday? I have time at three o'clock. Tom might come along too. Please write back!
Best wishes
Anna
