Großer Text: Ein Wochenende bei Oma

Lesson · 3 rules · about 3 min

Retell a weekend at grandma's: pick bin or habe, dem or der, and your story sounds like real German.

  1. 1Read to the participle before choosing the helper
  2. 2mit / bei / nach → dem, der, dem
  3. 3Two sentences are states: war
Why this matters

A weekend at grandma's with twelve gaps that ask for the two big things of this module at once: the Perfekt helper — habe or bin, hat or sind — and the dative article after mit, bei and nach. Every gap has a hint that names only the pieces (the subject and the infinitive, or the preposition and the noun with its article: mit · der Zug); the decision — haben or sein, which case — is yours. Read the whole text first, because the participle at the end of each sentence tells you which helper the gap needs, and the noun after each preposition tells you its gender. Then work through it in order: helpers, then articles. One gap is not Perfekt at all: Das Wetter war schön — a state, told with war.

Ein Wochenende bei Oma

Letztes Wochenende ich meine Oma besucht. Sie wohnt in Bonn, und ich am Samstagmorgen mit Zug gefahren. Die Fahrt nur eine Stunde gedauert. Am Bahnhof hat meine Oma auf mich gewartet.
