Großer Text: Mein Zimmer

Lesson · 3 rules · about 3 min

Describe your room, then tidy it up, and let the verb tell you whether each thing stays put or moves.

  1. 1The verb gives it away
  2. 2Same preposition, two cases
  3. 3Jetzt räume ich auf — the switch
Why this matters

A room described, then tidied — twelve gaps that switch between the two halves of the two-way rule. The first sentences say where things are (steht, hängt, liegt, liegen → wo?); then 'Jetzt räume ich auf' and the verbs change to lege, hänge, stelle, bringe, setze (→ wohin?). Every gap carries a hint naming only the noun and its gender — (f) Wand, (m) Schrank — which case to put it in is the decision you make. Read the verb before you fill the article: it is the verb, not the preposition, that tells you the case. This is the whole two-way system in one text — describing a room, then tidying it.

Mein Zimmer

Mein Zimmer ist klein, aber gemütlich. Das Bett steht an Wand, und über Bett hängt ein Poster von Berlin. Der Schreibtisch steht vor Fenster, weil ich beim Lernen gern nach draußen schaue.
